The spiritual successor to Electronic Arts’ Mutant League Football, Digital Dreams’ Mutant Football League, is once again seeking crowdfunding through Kickstarter. This time, however, the modern day take on the 16-bit fantasy football game is asking for a lot less for a very different looking — and nearly complete — game.
The Mutant Football League Kickstarter is seeking just $60,000 to help with final development of the game. The game’s previous crowdfunding game, which ran in 2013, sought $750,000 but raised only $141,121 of its target.
The revamped Mutant Football League is described as an “NFL Blitz arcade-style football game” featuring “nasty mutants, ferocious monsters” and “some edgy, satirical humor that parodies America's favorite sport.” The game will feature online and offline multiplayer for two to four players, both competitively and cooperatively. Mutant Football League’s creators promise over-the-top violence and gore mixed with humor and “politically incorrect” characters.
Players nostalgic for the Mutant League games can try out the new Mutant Football League, thanks to a playable “pre-alpha” demo for Windows PC. Kickstarter backers who pledge $1 or more will get access to a sneak preview build of the game for Steam.
The developers of Mutant Football League say the game will be released for Windows PC later this year, with versions for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One due in early 2018. The developer plans to release an alpha build of the game in April and an Early Access build in late summer.
More details are available at the game’s Kickstarter, which runs for the next 32 days.
