Beartopia trailer will make your Tuesday a little cuter

Spry Fox’s latest game is a VR title, but will also come to PC

Bear-obsessed developer Spry Fox debuted a trailer for its next title last weekend: the cooperative, village-building VR game Beartopia.

The company has been teasing the game as far back as 2016, with torturously cute screenshots and gifs.

Beartopia will debut on Google’s new Daydream virtual reality platform. Daydream currently runs on Google’s proprietary Pixel phones, as well as select phones from ZTE and Motorola. Though it will be exclusive to Daydream at launch, Spry Fox confirmed in an email to Polygon that Beartopia will eventually make it to PC and Mac.

The trailer contains our first extended look at Beartopia’s environments, characters and gameplay.

“We wanted to build a home for the Spry Fox bears,” said Spry Fox chief creative officer Daniel Cook at GDC’s Google Developer Day keynote. Cook said that Beartopia will be a persistent world, and that the gameplay will be entirely cooperative.

“It is our firm belief that every single game player is an immigrant into the worlds we build, and that we have a duty as creators to ensure that our communities bring out the best in people,” Cook said.

The trailer shows precious sweet bears mining resources and building a lighthouse. As we’ve seen from Spry Fox’s twitter, they can also keep other animals:

We’ll expect more details about Beartopia, including a release date, in the coming months. We’ve reached out for clarification on whether the PC version of Beartopia will be VR-compatible as well.
