Best moments from the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 trailer

In GIF!

Last night, Marvel premiered the new trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 during Jimmy Kimmel Live!

The trailer finally ushered in Ego the Living Planet — also known as the father of Star-Lord — who will be played by Kurt Russell. The trailer also included new scenes featuring everyone’s favorite infant plant, Baby Groot, and more bonding moments between the main crew.

Like many of the previous Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 trailers and spots, it focuses on the movie’s humor more than anything else. There are moments of genuine action, as you’d expect, but the biggest moments all come from the interactions between crew members.

We’ve collected the best moments from the trailer and GIFed them for easy sharing purposes. They can be seen below.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 will be released on May 5.

This giant beast, which we’re lovingly referring to as the giant sky octopus with teeth, is both terrifying and pretty rude. It appears during a heated conversation between Star-Lord and Gamora about the type of gun she’s carrying.

Luckily, Drax has no concept of fear or self-preservation and is willing to literally jump into the mouth of the beast.

The new trailer also gives us a look at the Guardians meeting Ayesha, the high priestess on Sovereign and a new villain the Guardians will have to contend with. In this scene, Rocket Raccoon, in the most inelegant fashion, refers to them as not being the “conceited douchebags” everyone makes the people of Sovereign out to be.

This heartwarming moment between Gamora and Star-Lord is damn near perfect!

If the Star-Lord and Gamora scene was heartwarming, this moment between Gamora and her sister, Nebula, is downright heartbreaking. We already know the two don’t get along — thanks for nothing, Thanos — but seeing one sister literally try to kill the other doesn’t bode well for a peaceful Thanksgiving dinner.

I’m not saying The Fast and Furious is one of the most influential franchises of all time, but this scene was introduced with a, “We’re not friends, we’re family” line and SHUT UP, YOU’RE CRYING.

This moment! This is the moment. When Star-Lord asks the unseen stranger for his name, Ego reveals that he’s Star-Lord’s father. Prepare for all of the emotions.

Naturally, it would be very wrong to end this post without mention of Baby Groot, the finest character of them all, so we have collected the best moments from the trailer featuring Groot.
