Wonder Boy 3 remake adds something new: Wonder Girl

The Dragon’s Trap arrives in April

Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap, the remake of Sega and Westone’s side-scrolling action-platformer Wonder Boy 3, is more than just a very stylish coat of paint on an 8-bit classic. It will also introduce another playable character, Wonder Girl.

Ben Fiquet, art director at developer Lizardcube, revealed Wonder Girl’s inclusion in The Dragon’s Trap in a post on the PlayStation Blog. While Fiquet didn’t go into much detail about the option to play as Wonder Girl, a new trailer for the game shows that she appears functionally the same as Wonder Boy. The developer even made an 8-bit sprite of Wonder Girl for the game’s retro mode, which uses the original game’s pixel art.

(The recently released Wonder Boy Returns, which was released by CFK Co. on Steam last year, also gave players the option to play as Tina, Wonder Boy’s girlfriend.)

Publisher DotEmu is bringing Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on April 19.

Wonder Boy fans thirsty for even more action platforming still have Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom — which is based on Wonder Boy in Monster World — to look forward to. That game is also coming to PS4, Switch and Xbox One, as well as Windows PC.
