Michael Kenneth Williams, best known for his work as Omar Little in The Wire and Albert “Chalky” White in Boardwalk Empire, has officially joined the Star Wars universe.
Lucasfilm confirmed the casting news on its official Star Wars website today, but rumors of Williams joining the project first started floating around last week. The confirmation post welcoming Williams to the Star Wars team doesn’t mention who the actor will be playing.
Williams joins Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Joonas Suotamo and Alden Ehrenreich. Ehrenreich will play a young Han Solo, with Harrelson set to portray Garris Shrike, the man who saved Solo as a young child. Glover will play a young Lando Calrissian.
The untitled Han Solo movie, which is being directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller (The Lego Movie) will take place before the events of the original trilogy. It is scheduled to be released on May 25, 2018.
