Splatoon 2 hits Nintendo Switch on July 21, Nintendo announced.
The release date comes from the company’s most recent Nintendo Direct presentation. Alongside the date announcement, Nintendo showed off some new gameplay from the multiplayer shooter.
A new mode revealed during the Direct is called Salmon Run, and it’s basically Splatoon 2’s version of a horde mode. The PvE mode pits a team of Inklings against some very disturbing salmon monsters as they try to collect new items called Power Eggs.
Splatoon 2 will also receive a new series of amiibo. There are three new figures heading to stores: a new color of Inkling Girl, Inkling Boy and a Squid. After syncing these amiibo into the game, they’ll become your friend, remembering custom outfits, weapons, gears and options.
We already got to play some Splatoon 2 last month as part of a global stress test. New weapons promise some innovation on the game’s unique formula, but overall, Splatoon 2 seems a lot like good ol’ Splatoon — and that’s not a bad thing.
