Carrie Fisher receives heartwarming, emotional tribute at Star Wars Celebration

Star Wars Celebration had its opening ceremony today, which included interviews with the cast of of various Star Wars films, an appearance from creator George Lucas and a beautiful tribute to the franchise’s late star, Carrie Fisher.

The tribute, which can be seen above, recalls some of Fisher’s most memorable scenes and funniest off-screen moments. Although the actress was best known for her portrayal of Princess Leia, Fisher was also a celebrated and award-winning author, as well as an advocate for mental health.

The tribute, which was introduced by Lucas, Lucasfilm CEO Kathleen Kennedy and Fisher’s daughter, Billie Lourd, goes over many of the biggest moments in Fisher’s life. The video also includes a brief look at a behind-the-scenes moment between Fisher and Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson during filming.

During Star Wars Celebration, Lucasfilm and Disney are also planning to give Fisher a dedicated memorial and tribute segment. That panel, which will also be livestreamed for those not in Orlando, Florida, will be held by Anthony Daniels. Daniels has played the worrisome, beloved droid C-3PO in every single Star Wars movie since the first one was released 40 years ago.

Fisher passed away in late December and was remembered fondly by those she worked with — including her Star Wars family — and fans around the world for her work both on and off-screen.

The tribute to Fisher will take place at 5:30 p.m. ET on Friday, April 14.
