Star Wars: The Last Jedi’s first trailer finally arrives

The hype train has left the station

Disney has finally released the first trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the eighth movie in the main franchise.

The trailer, which was revealed during a panel for the movie at Star Wars Celebration Orlando, provides the best look at the movie we’ve had since the name was announced a couple of months ago. One of the biggest themes prevalent in the trailer is the balance between light and darkness as Rey begins to learn about the capabilities she wields.

Like anything Star Wars, the biggest details are being kept under lock and key, but director Rian Johnson said he wanted the film to feel like one of the original trilogy movies. In an interview with USA Today, Johnson added there would be a little bit more comedy than people might expect.

Prior to Johnson’s interview, actor Adam Driver told Collider that The Last Jedi feels like Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, which led many to assume it was going to be just as dark. Driver later clarified his statement, adding the film wasn’t thematically or tonally the same, but shared some elements.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi will be released on Dec. 15.
