At Lucasfilm’s Star Wars Celebration, Mark Hamill took to the stage to say he’s not ashamed of trolling people on Twitter, especially when it comes to Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
Knowing that fans are eager to soak up and over-analyze anything related to the next Star Wars installment, Hamill told The Last Jedi panel moderator Josh Gad that he takes every opportunity to give fans a quick heart attack over trailers and hints about characters.
Hamill describes some of it as “what my kids call dad humor,” after he mentions a tweet he posted about The Last Jedi trailer ... where it was literally a picture of his trailer. Other incidents include referring to John Boyega as his son and Daisy Ridley as his daughter, sending Twitter into a state of frenzied speculation. Popular theories about Rey’s origin and family include ties to Luke Skywalker, and fans did not hesitate to wonder if Hamill was hinting at some sort of clue.
It’s not too far-fetched either to believe that Skywalker has taken a vow of silence in his solitude at Ahch-To — the rocky island where Rey found him and home to the first Jedi temple — since he technically didn’t say anything after he took his hood off at the end of The Force Awakens. He and director Rian Johnson claim it’s nothing but a joke ... right?
Just look at how far Hamill is willing to take the joke, as seen in the tweets below.

Shout-out to @JohnBoyega for no reason other than being wickedly-proficient w/ a lightsaber w/ no training whatsoever. You do me proud, son! pic.twitter.com/xeCFbzA9ph

In #EpVIII Luke has taken a vow of silence & communicates telepathically. I favor VO but @rianjohnson leans toward subtitles. #RUFooledFool? pic.twitter.com/jWr6SpE8UH

Star Wars: The Last Jedi will be released on Dec. 15. Hopefully we’ll finally get some answers about Rey’s parentage then.
