Star Wars Rebels will end after its fourth season, watch the first trailer now

Producer Dave Filoni says it’s time

Star Wars Rebels, one of the most popular animated shows based within the Star Wars universe, will come to an end after its upcoming fourth season.

Executive producer Dave Filoni told a panel gathered at Star Wars Celebration in Orlando, Florida that it was his decision to end the series, but promised there are more animated projects on the horizon for Star Wars fans. Filoni said that he wanted to be able to end the series when he felt the time was right instead of being told to continue beyond a series’ natural lifespan as many shows often do.

With the fourth season now confirmed as the show’s final one, the question is how big Filoni and his team are willing to go. The answer, according to news revealed during the panel, is as big as they possibly can. Forrest Whitaker will return as Saw Guerrera, but with closer ties to Rogue One, Filoni revealed. Mon Mothma will also return for the final season.

One of the bigger announcements Filoni made during the panel was the confirmation that Star Wars legend Warwick Davis would be joining the series in a new role. Davis will voice a character named Rukh, the bodyguard of Grand Admiral Thrawn. The character was originally introduced in Timothy Zahn's Heir to the Empire trilogy.

Star Wars Rebels will return for its fourth season this fall on Disney XD.
