Warner Bros. hasn’t been shy about showing off its reimagined version of Pennywise, the petrifying, murderous clown from Stephen King’s celebrated novel, It.
The studio, which is set to release its adaptation of the novel this fall, released a new production photo of a scene featuring the deranged clown. In the photo, which can be seen below, Pennywise appears to be attacking one of the members of the Loser’s Club — a club founded by a group of kids with the purpose of finally destroying the monster terrorizing their town. You can see a few of the actors, who will act as our view into the town situated within Derry, Maine.
Unlike the first photo of Pennywise that was released last year and quickly became the laughing stock of the internet, the new photo manages to encompass what made Pennywise so terrifying in the original miniseries that ran in 1990. That version of Pennywise, played by Tim Curry (Rocky Horror Picture Show), remains one of the most memorable and iconic versions of the character.
The new Pennywise will be played by Bill Skarsgård and, although it looks like he’ll approach the character differently than Curry based on the first trailer and stills we’ve seen, this photo should put to rest fears some fans of the original may have.
It will be released Sept. 8.
Update: Warner Bros. has reached out to Polygon to confirm it’s an “unauthorized, unreleased image from set.” The studio did not distribute it.
