Pokémon Sun and Moon anime airs stateside starting next month

We’re so pumped for this anime’s English debut

The Pokémon Company

Disney XD will begin airing Pokémon the Series: Sun and Moon on a regular basis starting in May. A special premiere weekend will feature the cartoon’s first three episodes, with the show airing weekly on Saturday mornings after that.

The first two episodes will run on May 12 at 9 p.m. ET. They first aired back in December as part of a special preview, commemorating the Pokémon cartoons’ move to the Disney XD premium cable network after years on Cartoon Network. The series’ third episode will then air May 13 at 9 a.m. ET; that will be Sun and Moon’s regular timeslot from then on.

Check out a trailer for the anime from Pokémon’s Twitter account:

We’ve followed the colorful Sun and Moon cartoon since it premiered in Japan last fall. It’s something of a reinvention of the animated Pokémon formula, just as the games it’s based on were. The animation style’s a bit looser, the story is a bit less rigid, and Ash and Pikachu’s new adventures are often more mature than we’d ever expect. We’re excited to see how the English-language version of the show holds up.
