Telltale’s Guardians of the Galaxy arrives tomorrow, watch the launch trailer

Star-Lord, Gamora and the gang saddle up

Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series will send the titular heroes on a path toward a confrontation with the “literal murderizing machine” known as Thanos, if the game’s launch trailer is anything to go by.

The first episode, which launches tomorrow, April 18, is called “Tangled Up in Blue.” The name comes from a 1975 Bob Dylan song; the Guardians of the Galaxy film and its upcoming sequel — which are unrelated to Telltale’s video game series — are famous for their use of popular music from the 1970s and ’80s.

Here’s the synopsis for the five-episode series from Telltale:

In the wake of an epic battle, the Guardians discover an artifact of unspeakable power. Each of them has a reason to desire this relic, as does a ruthless enemy who is the last of her kind, and who will stop at nothing to tear it from their hands.

It seems, then, that Thanos — the primary antagonist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe — is not the big-bad here.

“Tangled Up in Blue” will begin rolling out digitally this week on Android, iOS, Mac, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Windows PC, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. Telltale is also selling a Season Pass Disc at retail on PS4 and Xbox One. That package, which will come with the first episode on the disc and will grant access to digital versions of the subsequent four chapters as they are released, will be available May 2 in North America for $29.99 and May 5 internationally for the regional pricing equivalent.
