Traveling to Hanamura...

Genji
Blizzard Entertainment

Overwatch’s cybernetic ninja Genji is coming to Heroes of the Storm as a playable character starting today, Blizzard Entertainment announced today. Genji is available as part of the game’s 2.0 beta.

In addition to Genji, Blizzard is releasing a new battleground based on the character’s home turf. Inspired by the Overwatch map of the same name, Heroes of the Storm’s version of Hanamura includes new mercenaries and objectives, as well as “explosive payloads.”

Heroes of the Storm’s take on Genji closely matches his abilities in Overwatch; he can attack with shuriken and a dashing swift strike, and he can deflect enemy projectiles back toward his foes. Genji’s ultimate, Dragonblade, also carries over. Blizzard has given him another heroic ability, X-Strike. Here’s what that does:

Perform two slashes dealing 135 damage. The slashes detonate after 1.25 seconds causing an additional 270 damage to enemies in their area.

Genji joins a handful of other Overwatch heroes in Heroes of the Storm, including Tracer, Zarya and Lucio. Genji will be released officially as part of Heroes of the Storm 2.0, which goes live April 25.

Check out some screenshots of Genji in action and the new Hanamura battleground in the gallery below. After that, there’s a rundown of Genji’s abilities, straight from Blizzard.

Trait

Cyber Agility (D)

Activate to jump to target area

Basic Abilities

Shuriken (Q)

Throw 3 Shuriken in a spread pattern dealing each damaging the first enemy it hits.

Stores up to 3 charges. Shuriken’s cooldown replenishes all charges at the same time.

Deflect (W)

Become Protected for 1.25 seconds. Any damage blocked during this period causes Genji to throw a Kunai toward the nearest enemy, prioritizing Heroes and dealing damage.

Swift Strike (E)

Dash forward, dealing damage to all enemies in a line. Enemy Heroes who die within 2 seconds after being hit by Swift Strike cause the cooldown and Mana cost to be refunded.

Heroic Abilities

Dragonblade (R)

Unleash the Dragonblade for 8 seconds. While active, Dragonblade can be reactivated to lunge forward and slash in a huge arc. If any enemy Heroes are killed within 2 seconds after being hit by Dragonblade, Swift Strike’s cooldown is reset.

X-Strike (R)

Perform 2 perpendicular slashes that deal damage and ignite after 1.25 seconds, dealing additional damage to enemies in their area of effect.
