Lucasfilm CEO Kathleen Kennedy has become a keeper of secrets when it comes to Star Wars’ future, but the executive said we may get our newest hint about what’s to come this summer.
In an interview with MTV, Kennedy said that while she couldn’t promise when the announcement about the next anthology movie would be made, it was looking more likely every day. The only thing keeping her from confirming that information about the film would be revealed at either San Diego Comic-Con or, more likely, Disney’s D23 conference, was fear of rushing the creative process.
“I think we’re getting close,” Kennedy said. “My hope would be sometime around the summer. I never want to predict the creative process because it is its own thing, so we’re in the midst of those discussions right now.”

This isn’t the first time that Kennedy has hinted at a timed reveal and delivered on that hope. While promoting Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in December, Kennedy said fans should expect the first look at Star Wars: The Last Jedi sometime in spring. This past weekend, Kennedy, director Rian Johnson and some of the film’s cast debuted the trailer at Star Wars Celebration in Orlando, Florida.
Considering Star Wars is one of Disney’s best performing franchises at the box office, there’s no doubt in our minds that we won’t get a plethora of information out of D23. D23 runs from July 14-16, with San Diego Comic-Con taking place the weekend after.
