Bob’s Burgers is leaving Netflix in May, along with American Dad and Scrubs

Plus, you know, a whole bunch more

Bob's Burgers

Following the removal of series like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Firefly, Fox’s slow disappearance from Netflix is set to continue next month with shows like Bob’s Burgers and American Dad also leaving.

Netflix released its list of series that are coming to and leaving the streaming service next month. The more notable series departing include American Dad, Bob’s Burgers and Scrubs, but interestingly enough, one of those won’t be as big of a loss as some may think.

Netflix only mentions the second season of Bob’s Burgers is being removed. Upon further research, it appears that Netflix has already removed most of the show’s seasons, only leaving the sophomore episodes for those who want to relax with the Belchers. To compare, all 10 seasons of American Dad are available to stream, but only the last four seasons will be removed next month. Based on what happened with Bob’s Burgers, though, the first six seasons may also begin to disappear during separate periods as time goes on.

It’s a remarkably strange way to remove a TV series, chopping it down bit by bit as opposed to a mass removal, but it does say something about Fox’s changing relationship with Netflix. Although Arrested Development will remain on the service, prior to previous reports, Netflix and Fox are clearly going through some kind of separation. Many of Fox’s series, including Buffy and Bob’s Burgers, are available to stream on Hulu currently, and it’s unclear if the network is making a move toward that streaming platform entirely. Polygon has reached out to both Fox and Netflix for comment.

What’s important to remember is that 21st Century Fox, Fox TV’s parent company, is an investor in Hulu. Along with Time Warner and Disney, 21st Century Fox owns a stake in the streaming service. Fox does not have any ties to Netflix, beyond being paid an annual fee to allow the streaming service to carry its series. Other investors like Disney have no plans to remove its content from Netflix, as seen by the mammoth deal the two underwent to allow Netflix to stream new Disney releases exclusively.

The full list of shows and movies leaving Netflix next month can be seen below, but Polygon will also have a more detailed list of what’s coming to and leaving major streaming services next month available soon.
