This is Vadrum — Andrea Vadrucci, the Italian drummer who has racked up about 83 million YouTube views since 2006. Three performances of Super Mario Bros. tunes from 2008 netted him more than 12 million views, but only now has Vadrum turned his attention to Sonic the Hedgehog.
If you've got folks around, or neighbors through the walls or floors, keep in mind this is eight solid minutes of drumming. But for anyone for whom Sonic the Hedgehog's soundtrack is second nature, it's fun to watch a master drummer put his back into keeping time for the Blue Blur.
"The amazing music (composed by Masato Nakamura and Yuzo Koshiro) is from the 8-bit version of the game, released in 1991 (yeah, more than 25 years ago!) for the Sega Master System and Game Gear; oh man, how much I LOVED it back in the days! " Vadrum writes in the video's description. "And in the same way I loved every single thing of this video, from the idea to the final stage."
The tunes themselves are not identified individually; it's all one long medley, which makes the way Vadrum rolls into good ol' Green Hill Zone at 1:40 a nice touch.
Vadrum is working with a kick drum, four toms, three percussions, two snares and a whole shitload of cymbals (a dozen to be precise).
Rock on Vadrum and, if you need a partner on keytar, well, Rush Coil digs Sonic at least as much as you:
