A little while ago we brought you the news of Mass Effect: Discovery, Mass Effect: Andromeda’s first tie-in comic, which would follow the adventures of a turian soldier as he went undercover to infiltrate the Andromeda Initiative.
Since the release of the game, we’ve gotten some more information on that turian soldier, Tiran Kandros, and his place in the Initiative. And we’ve got some pretty fantastic-looking variant covers for the series’ four issues, from artist Kate Niemczyk and colorist Michael Atiyeh, in the style of old pulp sci-fi and adventure magazines.
“A young Turian military recruit goes undercover in order to infiltrate the mysterious Andromeda Initiative—and ultimately retrieve a scientist who’s made a potentially devastating discovery,” promised Mass Effect: Discovery’s official summary when it was announced. Preview pages from the first issue revealed our main character to be Tiran Kandros, who appears in Mass Effect: Andromeda as the leader of the Nexus’ civilian militia (the Andromeda Initiative has no formal armed forces).
Kandros will tell a player that his family expected that he’d continue a tradition of life-long military service, but that he saw the Initiative as a way to forge his own path — despite finding himself in a pseudo-military position after all. Perhaps Mass Effect: Discovery will show us exactly how he made that decision.
Discovery, written by Jeremy Barlow and drawn by Gabriel Guzman, will debut its first issue on May 24. And in the meantime, check out these honestly amazing variant covers for each of its four issues.
