John Cygan, a prolific voice actor best known to video gamers as the voice of Solidus Snake in Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, has died. He was 63.

The Hollywood Reporter first reported Cygan's death, confirmed by his agent and also by longtime friend Michael Chiklis on Twitter. Cygan's agency said he had gone through a long battle with cancer.

Cygan and Chiklis acted together on the 1990s comedy/drama series The Commish and in 2006 on the crime drama The Shield.

Cygan also acted in well known animated films such as Cars, Wall-E and Toy Story 3. He had even more credits on video games, ranging from Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, and its sequel, to Mafia II, Medal of Honor, Dead Island and three games in the Call of Juarez series.

But his part as Solidus Snake in 2001's Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty is typically regarded as his most well known video game voice role.

Cygan is survived by his wife and two children.
