Watch the first footage from The Dark Tower ahead of tomorrow’s trailer

The Gunslinger and the Man in Black have arrived

Nearly eight months after footage from The Dark Tower was leaked, Matthew McConaughey and Idris Elba have shared the first official clips from the movie.

The videos don’t give away too much, but do introduce McConaughey’s character, the Man in Black, and Elba’s Gunslinger. McConaughey released the trailer after a little bit of back-and-forth banter between he and Elba. Not looking to be outdone, Elba published his own 15-second teaser, which focuses on Roland Deschain, the character he plays. Both can be seen below.

The more notable moment occurs in Elba’s clip, where Deschain can be heard saying “I do not kill with my gun. I kill with my heart.” As fans of King’s novel will know, the saying is part of the Gunslinger’s Creed.

I do not aim with my hand; He who aims with his hand has forgotten the face of his father.

I aim with my eye.

I do not shoot with my hand; He who shoots with his hand has forgotten the face of his father.

I shoot with my mind.

I do not kill with my gun; He who kills with his gun has forgotten the face of his father.

I kill with my heart.

Deschain comes from a long line of Gunslingers and embarks on a journey in King’s expansive, celebrated series to reach the top of the tower. On his journey, Deschain is forced to contend with with a number of malevolent forces who attempt to thwart him from doing so.

In the film adaptation, The Dark Tower follows Deschain as he attempts to find the Man in Black and reach the Dark Tower in the process in a valiant attempt to save his world from sure devastation.

The Dark Tower will be released on Aug. 4, with the film’s first trailer expected to arrive tomorrow morning.
