As part of Vanity Fair’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi cover story, the magazine has revealed the first look at Laura Dern and Benicio del Toro’s new characters in Rian Johnson’s upcoming film.
Alongside the reveal of both actors clad in their space costumes, it was finally confirmed that Dern will be playing Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo, a key figure and prominent officer in the Resistance. Rumors about who Dern would be playing started floating in April following a report from Making Star Wars. In that report, Holdo was described as the “antithesis of Leia’s new general look.” As seen in the photo below, Holdo will be decked out in all pink — including her hair — with a flowing pink cape to tie it all together.
While details have finally been confirmed regarding Dern’s role, del Toro’s unnamed character is still shrouded in mystery. The only thing that director Rian Johnson would confirm is that members of the crew call his character “DJ.” His character is described as a “‘shady character’ of unclear allegiances” and his photo does little to give away any more details.
Another report from Making Star Wars alleged that del Toro’s character may be quite well off considering the size and luxury of his ship, but these rumors have yet to be confirmed or denied by Lucasfilm.

More information is expected to be released in the coming weeks. Disney is set to have its bi-annual D23 conference at the beginning of July where the studio will go over more Star Wars details. San Diego Comic-Con is just around the corner, too.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi will be released on Dec. 15.
