Far Cry 5 is scheduled to launch Feb. 27, 2018. In a press release issued today, Ubisoft said the game would arrive simultaneously for PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One. The publisher also revealed some of the first details of the game, which pits players against a fanatical cult.
“As the new junior deputy of fictional Hope County, Montana,” Ubisoft began, “players will find that their arrival accelerates a years-long silent coup by a fanatical doomsday cult, the Project at Eden’s Gate, igniting a violent takeover of the county. Caught off guard and drawn into a power struggle, players must disrupt the carefully laid plans of the Project at Eden’s Gate and fan the fires of resistance to help liberate the Hope County community and themselves.”
Along with the press release come the first few screenshots of the game, which includes the view from the cockpit of a small commercial plane dogfighting with a World War II-era single-engine bomber.
Ubisoft explained how players will have to gather allies to fight against Eden’s Gate. That player-led group will be called the Resistance.
“During their journey, players can fly planes to engage cult forces in aerial dogfights across Big Sky Country,” said Ubisoft. “While tracking down cult members and gathering resources for survival across farmland, forests, mountains and rivers, players can get behind the wheel of iconic American muscle cars, big rigs, ATVs and boats. Vehicles also provide refuge when under attack by animals or as a way to quickly escape when things don’t go as planned.”
Ubisoft also released a series of character vignettes for Far Cry 5, three short videos that you can find in our feature story.
