The Defenders trailer affirms that Marvel’s heroes also think Iron Fist is kind of lame

Luke Cage and Iron Fist will fill that Hulk-sized hole in your heart

Netflix released the first trailer for its upcoming Defenders series today, making it very clear that the members of Marvel’s crime fighting troupe also have an issue with Iron Fist.

Like The Avengers, The Defenders will spend a portion of their time together trying to figure each other out. There’s a bit of distrust between the four heroes, used to acting as lone wolves in their own city, but deep down they’re aware that only they can defeat the Hand, an underground criminal organization, by working together. That doesn’t stop them from harking on one another, and it’s obvious Luke Cage has it out for Iron Fist.

At the end of the trailer, the Defenders are gathered around a table, eating dinner with one another. It’s very reminiscent of the shawarma scene that takes place at the end of The Avengers, but instead of eating in silence, Iron Fist can’t stop talking about how great their team could be, pointing to each individual member.

“Bulletproof,” he says, pointing at Luke Cage. “Blind ninja ... whatever it is you are.”

A line to which Jessica Jones replies with a sardonic and tired, “Classy.”

Cage laughs, smirking at the reaction Iron Fist receives. Although Iron Fist isn’t the only one to be insulted by Jones, it’s made pretty clear in the trailer that he’s the character they’ll have the most problems with.

He’s the youngest of the four, the newest hero to New York and, unlike Jones, Cage or Murdock, belongs to one of the wealthiest families in the country.

He doesn’t quite fit in, and the trailer makes that much clear. Even with Claire Temple trying to make Cage and Iron Fist see eye-to-eye on certain things, reminding them they have to work together to defeat the Hand, the aggravation the two feel toward each other isn’t disappearing any time soon.

The Defenders will be available to stream in its entirety on Aug. 18.
