Square Enix's next role-playing game is Lost Sphear, and its being developed by the makers of I Am Setsuna. It's due to launch in early 2018 on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Windows PC.
Lost Sphear takes on a classic JRPG style and gameplay themes similar to I Am Setsuna, made by Tokyo RPG Factory and debuting last year on the PS4 and Windows PC. Tokyo RPG Factory is a newer studio founded by Square Enix to revitalize classic JRPGs for modern consoles.
In Lost Sphear, the protagonist — a boy named Kanata — is on a journey to save his disappearing home village. "To stop the world from being lost forever," says a news release, "Kanata and his comrades set out to rebuild the world around them with the power of Memory by manifesting thoughts into matter."
The news release said Lost Sphear will feature a retooled version of the active-time battle system seen in I Am Setsuna (and originating in the Final Fantasy series).
I Am Setsuna launched in July 2016 and was a launch title for the Nintendo Switch back in March.
