Star Wars Battlefront 2 will include Finn and Captain Phasma in free DLC

EA says it is committed to keeping players together

The first season of downloadable content for Star Wars Battlefront 2 will include Finn and Captain Phasma as well as the planet Crait featured in the first trailer for The Last Jedi. The update, and others like it, will be free.

EA seems to be leaning into the games as a service model with so-called “themed seasons” of free content. A press release issued during the presentation said that players will become part of a world that is “constantly growing.”

“All players will have access to these free content drops,” EA said, “that will include a mix of new locations, characters, vehicles, modes, weapons, star cards, and more. Players will also be able to participate in regular live events and challenges that will come with their own special rewards.”

The first set of free content will come in December, following the game’s launch on November 17. It will include Finn, Captain Phasma, Crait and a space map over D’Qar as well as “new events, rewards and more.”

The news comes from EA’s pre-E3 press conference, where voice actor Janina Gavankar took the stage. Gavankar, who plays the single-player campaign’s main character Iden Versio, was also joined by Finn himself — actor John Boyega — who pre-recorded his portion of the presentation from London.

Throughout the show EA stressed its commitment to keeping the Battlefront 2 player base together and promised that all themed seasons of content would be provided free of charge. The presentation concluded with a live demonstration of the Theed map, a battle for the queen’s palace on Naboo.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 is coming to PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One.
