After airing Mr. Rogers, Julia Child, Carl Sagan and the Power Rangers, Twitch is bringing viewers to the Satellite of Love with a stream of every episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000.
A press release from the popular streaming service calls it “the most extensive collection of MST3K episodes ever assembled for a marathon.”
Premiering in 1988 on local-broadcast television in Minneapolis, Minnesota, MST3K quickly developed a cult following, going on to air new seasons nationally on Comedy Central and the Sci-Fi Channel. The show had a wacky explanation for a simple formula, best summed up by its theme song:
The show’s host — first creator Joel Hodgson and later writers-room-head Michael J. Nelson — and two puppet companions would watch a flagrantly disastrous sci-fi B-movie and “riff” it by telling jokes at its expense.
The MST3K stream will be the latest in a popular and ongoing trend of non-gaming-related marathons for Twitch, but a first for Shout Factory, the corporate parent of Mystery Science Theater 3000. The company regularly streams MST3K marathons on YouTube every Thanksgiving, but this will be its first foray onto Twitch, on its new official Shout Factory channel.
You can catch the stream on that channel, starting at 12:15 ET on June 23 — and for six whole days after that.
