Spider-Man: Homecoming early reactions call it one of the superhero’s best

It’s time to get excited

Spider-Man: Homecoming has a lot riding on it; more so than almost any other movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

While full reviews won’t be available until next week, early reactions to screenings have found their way online. Those who may have been worried about their favorite friendly neighborhood Spider-Man will be happy to note that critics are calling it one of the best in franchise history. That means it’s probably just as good as — if not better — than Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2 but nowhere near the disaster that was Spider-Man 3.

Homecoming is the first live-action Spider-Man movie that Marvel has creative control over. Since Sony owns the rights to the character, the studio has had control over the stories in previous Spider-Man films. Marvel and Sony negotiated a deal in 2015 to allow the character to be shared between the two studios; while Homecoming exists as a Sony film, Marvel has control over the story and can use the superhero in future MCU movies. That’s why Spider-Man was in Captain America: Civil War and will appear in Avengers: Infinity War.

Spider-Man: Homecoming will be released on July 7. Expect Polygon’s full review next week.
