When the first photo for Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle was released backlash ensued over actress Karen Gillan’s outfit.
Questions were raised over why Gillan’s outfit left the actress more exposed than her male counterparts. At the time, both Gillan and Dwayne Johnson said it would all be explained in the movie. Today, Sony Pictures released the first trailer for the movie, giving an answer to the question that drew concerns. actress more exposed than her male counterparts.
Like Johnson and Gillan hinted, it’s all done in the name of satire.
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle takes place inside the world of an old school, ‘80s video game. When the movie’s four characters are transported to the virtual world, they take on the looks of the avatars they chose to play as. One of the characters, unfortunately, wears a pair of tiny shorts and a crop top. It doesn’t take long for the character, played by Karen Gillan, to ask why her avatar would be dressed like that while in the jungle?
Whether this will be an ongoing joke or not is unclear, but the movie looks like it will tackle some of the tropes found in older video games.
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle will be released on Dec. 20.
