Pinball FX3 coming soon with focus on multiplayer and helping newcomers

‘Majority’ of Pinball FX2 games can be imported free

Zen Studios' long-running pinball series is seeking to remake itself this summer with Pinball FX3, a suite that will be more focused on multiplayer interactions, while helping players understand tables' objectives, take a more strategic approach to the games, and become better players.

Pinball FX3 will launch on PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One "this summer," said Mel Kirk, Zen's vice president of publishing. Three unnamed new titles "from a brand-new IP partner" will launch alongside Pinball FX3. Those will be revealed at a later date.

Pinball FX3 is more or less a platform replacement. That means users will be able "to import the majority of your Zen Pinball 2 (Pinball FX2) purchases to Pinball FX3 for free," Kirk said.

Asked what "majority" meant by commenters on PlayStation Blog, Kirk said "There are a few licenses that present business challenges, and will not be able to make the jump to FX3."

All original Zen Studios tables (Epic Quest, Secrets of the Deep, etc.) will be making the transition to Pinball FX3, Kirk said. The full roster of pinball tables coming to Pinball FX3 will be announced in the weeks to come.

Kirk said Pinball FX3 will be built around user-created tournaments, league play, and multiplayer matchups. Additionally, "we have heard from so many people that they feel lost when trying to play pinball," Kirk said. (There is, actually, an official set of guides for each table). For those who enjoy the games but feel they aren't doing much more than swatting at the ball with the flippers, Zen has "designed deep single-player modes that will help you become a better pinball player," Kirk said.
