The Incredibles 2 is going to be all about Holly Hunter’s Elastigirl.
Director Brad Bird confirmed today during Disney’s D23 panel that the movie, slated to be released in June of next year, will center much of its action around Elastigirl. The sequel will pick up right where the first film, released in 2004, ended. Despite the lack of change in time between the two movies, Bird said that because of how much more advanced technology has become, there will be a noticeable change in how the characters move and appear.
Even with the focus of the movie being on Elastigirl, Pixar started its portion of The Incredibles 2 panel with a look at Edna Mode and her influence on the fashion industry. That homage can be seen in the video below.
It wasn’t long after that video ended, that Bird took the stage and introduced a new clip from the movie. For those who were fans of Jack-Jack, the youngest member of the Parr family, you’ll be pleased to note that he has some cool superhero powers. In the clip we saw, Jack-Jack could use his eyes to project lasers and, because he doesn’t have the ability to control what he’s doing, this leads to some unfortunate jumping around for a tiny bird.
Another part of the panel was dedicated to concept art for settings in The Incredibles 2. For example, the Parrs’ house is about to undergo big changes as Jack-Jack gets bigger. Baby proofing, Bird pointed out, is a nightmare for this family.
The Incredibles 2 was originally supposed to be released in 2019, but Pixar confirmed last year that it would be pushed up to June 2018, switching spots with the highly-anticipated Toy Story 4. Toy Story 4 will now be released on June 21, 2019.
Bird, who directed the first film and took home an Oscar for Best Animated Feature, will return to tackle the sequel. Samuel L. Jackson, Sarah Vowell and Raymond Ochoa are set to reprise their roles.
The Incredibles 2 will be released on June 15, 2018.
