The developer of Her Story, the breakthrough interactive murder mystery adventure, is teaming up with Annapurna Interactive for his next game, Variety reports. Titled Telling Lies, the successor to Her Story will draw inspiration from Steve McQueen’s erotic drama Shame and Francis Ford Coppola’s thriller The Conversation, according to creator Sam Barlow.
Barlow told Variety that the spiritual follow-up to Her Story will be both bigger in scope and have a higher budget than that game. Barlow said that he and Annapurna Interactive, the game’s publisher, are trying to secure Hollywood talent for the live-action game.
Variety described Telling Lies as “in the vein of a political thriller” and “a completely new story with more characters and locations.”
Shooting for Telling Lies is expected to begin later this year or in early 2018.
Barlow released Her Story in 2015. The full-motion video game tasks players with digging through filmed police interviews to piece together a true crime-style mystery. Her Story won numerous accolades and was named Polygon’s game of the year in 2015.
Publisher Annapurna Interactive, a division of Annapurna Pictures, was formed in 2016.
