Dragon Ball FighterZ producer confirms Trunks as a playable character (update)

Closed registration for the beta goes live next month

Arc System Works’ upcoming fighting game, Dragon Ball FighterZ, just added a fan favorite Dragon Ball Z character to its roster.

Producer Tomoko Hiroki announced the character on stage at Evo 2017, the largest fighting game competition in the world. In the reveal trailer, seen above, Trunks can be seen fighting other popular Dragon Ball Z characters, including Vegeta and Frieza. According to the trailer, Trunks will be available to play as part of the closed beta. Registration for the beta begins on Aug. 22 for both Xbox One and PlayStation 4 players. The official closed beta will run between Sept. 16-18.

Dragon Ball FighterZ was announced last month during E3 and quickly became one of the most anticipated games from those within the fighting community. Unlike other fighting games based on anime series, such as Naruto and other Dragon Ball properties, Dragon Ball FighterZ will maintain the 2D anime art style. As seen in the gameplay footage from E3, attacks will be incredibly cinematic and take up the entire screen, much like the way the original anime series displayed some of its biggest fighting sequences.

Dragon Ball FighterZ will be released in early 2018 for both Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

Update: Due to the “volume of excitement and enthusiasm” surrounding the closed beta, developer Bandai Namco Entertainment announced on Facebook that it has decided to delay the closed beta sign up date until Aug. 22. The closed beta will run from Sept. 16-18. The story has been changed above to reflect the most recent development.
