Evo Japan will mark Arms’ fighting game tournament debut

Smash Bros. Melee will not be there

Evo Japan 2018 launch trailer

Tonight at Evo 2017 in Las Vegas, Nevada, a trailer revealed the official dates and games lineup for Evo Japan 2018, the debut installment in the fighting game tournament’s new Japanese event.

Evo Japan will take place from January 26-28 in Tokyo. Eight games will be headlining the event. Some aren’t surprising, with games like Tekken 7, Guilty Gear Xrd, King of Fighters XIV, BlazBlue: Central Fiction and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U making an appearance. But more importantly, Evo Japan will not feature the beloved Super Smash Bros. Melee — unlike its stateside version — while Nintendo will host competitive Arms players at Evo for the first time.

As we learned last year, Evo’s organizers are partnering with local fighting game leagues Topanga and Godsgarden to plan the Japanese event. They’ll also be working with a number of other communities, such as Tokyo Offline Party, Button Mashers, KVO, Judgement Day, Virtua Fighter Relationship and Tekken Mastercup Series.
