Most of the attention paid to John Boyega these days has to do with Lucasfilm’s upcoming Star Wars movie, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, but a new video for Pacific Rim Uprising is here to remind us the actor has other skills.
The teaser, which appears as a recruitment video, saves Boyega until the very end of the video, but it does mark the first time that we’ve seen the actor pilot his own Jaeger. Taking on the role of Jake Pentecost, the son of Idris Elba’s character in Pacific Rim, Boyega will be stepping into some large shoes as he tries to protect the world from a would-be catastrophic attack by the Kaiju (deadly monsters).
Boyega has shared a few pictures from the set since Uprising has been in development, but this is the first “teaser” for the movie that we’ve received. The link that appears at the bottom of the screen near the end of the video includes more information about the five different Jaegers that will be seen in Uprising. These include the Gipsy Avenger, Bracer Phoenix, Saber Athena, Titan Redeemer and Guardian Bravo. The blueprints for each Jaeger can be downloaded from the site.
Pacific Rim Uprising, which won’t be directed by Guillermo del Toro unlike the first, will be released on Feb. 23, 2018.
