A new trailer for Netflix’s The Punisher, shown tonight at the San Diego Comic-Con, is quite a departure from Marvel’s other high-profile superhero shows.
The teaser trailer shows Frank Castle, played by Jon Bernthal (The Walking Dead), on a violent romp through the Americas. In one scene he’s taking out bikers in Alabama. In New York City he strangles a man in an airport bathroom. Later, in Juarez, Mexico we see him assassinate the leader of a drug cartel while he’s having sex.
It seems that The Punisher’s violence all stems from something in his past. Early in the trailer Castle is shown teaching his daughter the guitar.
Bernthal has previously played The Punisher in the second season of Netflix’s Daredevil. His upcoming series was teased just yesterday on the official Luke Cage Twitter account. He showed up for an instant after a montage of The Defenders narrated by Stan Lee himself.
We’ll have the full trailer here as soon as it’s made widely available.
The Punisher will air this November. You can expect Netflix’s The Defenders, including Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, Daredevil and Cage on Aug. 18.
