Pokémon Go is ramping up the legendary Pokémon count in the coming months. Lugia’s already available, as is Articuno, but two more familiar faces are on the way.
Niantic revealed in a blog post on Pokémon Go’s website that Zapdos and Moltres will also appear in-game. Articuno arrived first largely because of Pokémon Go Fest; members of Team Mystic, which uses Articuno as its mascot, racked up the most bonus rewards during the event. Had Team Instinct or Team Valor won out, it’s likely that the birds representing them would have made it into the game first.
It’s unclear when that will happen, just as it’s unclear when Pokémon Go Fest attendees will receive their promised Lugia giveaway. But those legendary Raid Battles, which players must take part in and complete in order to unlock Articuno and Lugia, are tough. Players have enough on their plates trying to grab those guys in the lead-up to Zapdos and Moltres, although based on what we’re seeing on our Pokémon Go maps, plenty of folks have Articuno in their arsenal already.
