Ahoy there, mateys!
Are you a twenty-something person eager to relive a childhood that basically just ended? Or are you someone a bit older who’s desperate to understand all these youngins’ hip lingo?
In either case, welcome to our new stream, entitled PolyPals Jr. Every stream, Polygon’s resident babies, Allegra and Thomas, will dive into a different game from their respective childhoods. The games could be on console or PC, point-and-click or platformer, edutaining or silly. The only rule is: They have to be made for kids.
This week, we kicked things off with the 2003 classic SpongeBob Squarepants: Battle for Bikini Bottom on the original Xbox. Allegra and Thomas blazed through the first level while reminiscing about the TV show, discussing the game’s speedrunning community and considering big philosophical questions.
How does Mermaid Man breathe underwater? Can fish grow mustaches? Do SpongeBob and his best friend Patrick ... bleed? We ponder these intellectual dilemmas and more in this debut episode of PolyPals Jr.
