The first trailer for Godzilla: Monster Planet, the first animated Godzilla movie and the beginning of a new trilogy, is here.
Godzilla: Monster Planet is set in the year 2048 and follows a group of humans who decide to return to Earth and take up arms against the monstrous creatures that pushed them out decades ago. The film will partially take place in space as well as on Earth where Godzilla and other creatures run rampant.
Godzilla: Monster Planet is being directed by Koubun Shizuno and Hiroyuki Seshita, two well known names in the industry who have contributed to projects like G.I. Joe: Sigma and Knights of Sidonia. The movie is being produced by the animation division at Toho Studios, the same company behind the original Godzilla films.
Based on this trailer and posters previously released, there’s a good chance that Shizuno and Seshita’s version of Godzilla will be different from the various live-action versions we’ve seen over the decades.
Although Godzilla: Monster Planet will only be released theatrically in Japan, Netflix has picked up the global distribution rights to the movie. It will be available for everyone to watch this November.
