Netflix and Toei Animation have announced plans to remake renowned anime series Saint Seiya and bring it to the streaming service.
The original Saint Seiya ran on TV between 1986 and 1989, and has spawned multiple film adaptations and spinoff shows throughout the years. The show follows a young orphan, Seiya, who becomes a mystical warrior known as a Saint. With his fellow Saints, he fights for the Greek goddess Athena, defending Earth from evil gods who seek to conquer the planet.
The CG remake will be titled Knights of the Zodiac: Saint Seiya. The first season will consist of 12 half-hour episodes, which will cover the first four arcs of the original series. Yoshiharu Ashino, director of D. Gray Man Hallow, is set to direct the new series.
Netflix has not yet announced a release date for Knights of the Zodiac. However, a poster was revealed along with the series announcement, which states that it is “coming soon.”
