Ys Net has dropped a teaser for Shenmue 3, our first look at footage from the long-awaited project. It’s a teeny, tiny teaser, one that doesn't show off much from the adventure title — but we’ll make do with what we can get.
Fittingly titled “The 1st Teaser,” the video above shows our hero Ryo among some classic scenery, as well as his confidante Shenhua Ling. There’s not much of a narrative going on quite yet in this brief montage, but Shenmue fans should find what we’re seeing here familiar. The game doesn’t look too different from the series’ Dreamcast and Xbox origins — which should be good news for die-hards who have been longing for a third entry over the past decade-plus.
Director and series creator Yu Suzuki of Ys Net delayed Shenmue 3 earlier this year, pushing the game into a late 2018 release window. Backers of the game’s high-profile Kickstarter campaign originally expected it to ship by late 2017.
Shenmue 3 will be available on both PlayStation 4 and Windows PC, and Yu Suzuki is showing it behind closed doors at this year’s Gamescom. That, plus this new clip package, are tiny signs of life for the project.
