This is Major League Baseball’s “Players’ Weekend,” when they’re allowed to step outside of the stodgy uniform rules the sport enforces and wear vibrant-colored jerseys with nicknames on the back. The New York Yankees’ slugger Aaron Judge is using the occasion to step out with Destiny 2-themed cleats and batting gloves.
Judge, a mortal lock for Rookie of the Year honors in the American League, is known to be a Destiny fan. He stopped by Bungie’s offices in Bellevue, Washington on July 22 when the Yankees were in Seattle to play the Mariners.
His first set of cleats and gloves, worn last night, are the black and gold Warlock-themed pair in the middle of the first image. At left is the Hunter-themed equipment; at right the Titan’s. It’s assumed he’ll be wearing the others today and tomorrow, too. Conveniently enough, Seattle is in the Bronx for this series so, who knows, maybe they delivered the goods for Bungie.
Judge is narrowly leading the American League in home runs, with 37, but the eye-popping quality of his shots, plus the fact he’s doing it for the Yankees, has him well positioned for top rookie honors.
Destiny 2 launches Sept. 6 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. New York will be in Baltimore that day but, good news for Judge, the Yanks have the next day off.
