The consensus on Destiny’s story was that it was thin, poorly told and downright nonsensical. The game threw sci-fi mumbo-jumbo at players and didn’t bother to lead them through its narrative, attempting to wave off any questions with a now-infamous meta-joke. Terms like the Golden Age, the Traveler, the Darkness and the Collapse may fly around in players’ heads, but nobody really knows what they mean or how they relate to one another.
Enter U.K.-based YouTuber Byf, who has teamed up with a small group to put together the most comprehensive and comprehensible chronicle of Destiny’s lore yet. Byf’s narrated video, which runs for more than an hour and a half, takes fans through the full timeline of the Destiny universe — from the Traveler’s appearance on Mars and the start of the Golden Age right up through the Age of Triumph to Destiny 2, which begins with an assault on The Last City by Cabal forces known as the Red Legion.
Byf stays out of in-the-weeds topics like the depths of the Grimoire; you won’t find anything about the Books of Sorrow in his video. But it’s far from a cursory overview, and to top it all off, we could listen to Byf’s deep, calming British accent for days on end.
