Today’s big Star Wars Battlefront 2 trailer wants you to know one thing: It’s a bigger game than its predecessor.
As John Boyega mentions in this five-minute trailer (with a helpful infographic) Battlefront 2 has more than three times the number of locations (not total maps, the overall settings) and vehicles of 2015’s Battlefront, not to mention a single-player campaign mode that the actor himself asked for in the original.
Note that Boyega is comparing launch-day details. Star Wars Battlefront added a lot more in four premium DLC launches that followed, and became a much different game in the additional free content updates and changes since.
It’s an unusual way to market this game, but any sports gamer knows their favorite franchise does this every year. “Oh, that thing we said was so great last year (or two years ago)? Well, let me tell you, it’s nothing compared to this.” In retrospect, the first Battlefront was skimpy, launching as a multiplayer-only title that leaned on players’ love for the Star Wars universe more than bringing it to life on their PC or console.
It’s notable that Battlefront 2 will launch with fewer multiplayer modes than the first game. That said, it includes two that cut right to the chase: Starfighter Assault and Heroes vs. Villains, showcasing what are, basically, the best toys in the Star Wars lineup across its full lineage.
Star Wars Battlefront 2 launches Nov. 17 on PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One.
