Star Wars Battlefront 2 picked a strong basis for its single-player campaign, because who, really, hasn’t wondered what it was like in the Empire’s locker room after choking down a huge loss on Endor? Yesterday, Playstation posted this chapter from early in the game, and it gives a reasonably good idea.
The Empire is pissed off, and still formidable. The Emperor speaks from beyond the grave, and not as a Force ghost, either. And of course, there’s the big foreshadowing — what classified information is being denied Iden Versio? I bet it’s something that gets her to rethink her loyalty to the Empire.
That’s just the story part; the production values are legit cinematic, and this is going forward as “an untold Star Wars story,” so I guess we can consider it canonical.
Star Wars Battlefront 2 launches Nov. 17 on PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One. That’s a month before Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi premieres in theaters. In addition to the big singleplayer mode, the game is touting beefier multiplayer even if it launches with fewer modes than its 2015 predecessor.
And a reminder: the Battlefront 2 beta begins on Wednesday, Oct. 4 for those who preordered the game. Everyone else can jump in Oct. 6, and it lasts until Oct. 9.
