Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 doesn’t have a release date yet but can safely assume it’ll be released in 2020.
Director James Gunn, who confirmed he was returning for the third and final installment earlier this year, posted a comment on Facebook hinting that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 would be released in “just under three years.”

That sets the movie for a 2020 release date, which Disney and Marvel currently have three openings for: May 1, Aug. 7 and Nov. 6. It seems unlikely that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be an end of the year contender for Marvel, who will probably use that space for a Black Panther or Doctor Strange followup.
Based on when Guardians of the Galaxy and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 were released — Aug. 1, 2014 and May 5, 2017 — it seems far more likely the third film will keep to the summer schedule.
With Avengers 4 slated to be released in May 2019 and no followup Avengers movies currently on Disney and Marvel’s docket — that we know of — having a big tentpole movie like Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 kickstart the summer seems like a good move.
We may not get a proper release date for a while, but it seems like a safe bet to assume it will take that May 1, 2020 spot.
