Donkey Kong will be a playable character, and he will star in his own story that will also include a new world. The ape’s size and stature will present some unique narrative and battle opportunities, according to Ubisoft.
“He has big arms, so we wanted to use them extensively through the combat,” said Davide Soliani, creative director at Ubisoft Milan, in an interview with the UbiBlog. “He can also be very goofy, and that’s why his presence in the game, along with the Rabbids, allowed us to present different kinds of humorous interactions in the storytelling.”
The Donkey Kong DLC, which will contain music from Grant Kirkhope — the composer behind the music in Kingdom Battle as well as Donkey Kong 64 — is scheduled to be released this spring. It will be available as a stand-alone purchase, although Ubisoft did not announce a price, and it is included in Mario + Rabbids’ $19.99 season pass.
