I haven’t tried to hide or disguise that Black Panther’s accompanying soundtrack is one of my most anticipated releases this year. The newest track from Jay Rock, Future, James Blake and, yes, Kendrick Lamar proves why.
“King’s Dead” is the third track from the album released so far. Kendrick Lamar first premiered the first track, “All the Stars,” with labelmate, Sza. A tease of Lamar’s collaboration with Vince Staples debuted with the latest Black Panther teaser. Lamar, who is producing the album, hasn’t revealed the full list of tracks and contributing artists.
Considering that Jay Rock and Sza are members of Top Dawg Entertainment, the label Lamar is producing the album with, expect to see a few more collaborations from fellow Top Dawg Entertainment artists. That means we may see another Ab-Soul and Kendrick Lamar team up, which the world is in desperate need of.
Black Panther director Ryan Coogler and lead actor Chadwick Boseman spoke to the Los Angeles Times during San Diego Comic-Con in 2017 about Lamar’s music and the inspiration it had on the movie. An exclusive trailer played for those in attendance at Marvel’s Hall H presentation included Lamar’s popular track, “DNA,” which is off his most recent album, Damn.
The Black Panther soundtrack is available to pre-order now. It will be released on Feb. 9. Black Panther will follow one week later, hitting theaters on Feb. 16.
