Sims 4 players can now do laundry

Laundry Day Stuff expansion brings the mundane joy of washing and drying

Players of The Sims 4 can finally fill a very specific hole in their Sims’ digital lives, letting their virtual humans wash, dry and fold laundry. Electronic Arts and Maxis released a new laundry-themed add-on pack — Laundry Day Stuff — for The Sims 4 today.

Sim laundry is a thing the fanbase clearly communicated to EA that they wanted. EA and Maxis created the add-on “in collaboration with players and fans through a series of online votes,” according to a release. It took six rounds of voting and 768,000 votes for Sims players to collectively decide that, yes, they would like to force their Sims to have to wash their clothes.

The Sims 4 Laundry Day Stuff now lets players install washing machines and dryers, or use an old-school washtub to manually scrub out stains. They can also hang dry clothes, which I fully realize is actually considered relaxing and not tortuous to some people.

The Laundry Day Stuff pack also includes some non-laundry stuff: “country-inspired décor” like wood and wicker furniture, colorful rugs and floral-filled baskets; and “country-themed attire adorned with floral patterns, laid-back denim items, and hassle-free hairstyles to complement a relaxed look.”

The Sims 4 Laundry Day Stuff is available now for Mac and Windows PC. You can watch a trailer for the laundry-doing add-on, which is exceptionally dramatic, thanks to its use of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony.
