Steam’s latest sale gathers together the year’s most popular PC games and puts them all in one place.
Called simply The Best of 2017 Sale, Valve has divided the most successful and influential titles across five categories. Even if your games budget is tapped out for the holidays, the exercise is a great look back on an exceptional year in PC gaming.
Oddly enough, of the dozen top-sellers as measured by gross revenue, only three of them were actually released in 2017. To adhere to the theme of the list, Valve includes free-to-play games as well as games that are not on sale.
- Ark: Survival Evolved (2017), marked down 60 percent to $23.99
- Divinity: Original Sin 2 (2017), marked down 10 percent to $40.49
- Dota 2 (2013), still free
- Counter Strike: Global Offensive (2012), marked down 33 percent to $10.04
- Grand Theft Auto 5 (2015), marked down 60 percent to $23.99
- H1Z1 (2016, formerly H1Z1: King of the Kill), marked down 75 percent to $4.99
- Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds (2017), full price at $29.99
- Rocket League (2015), marked down 40 percent
- Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands (2017), marked down 50 percent to $29.99
- Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege (2015), marked down 40 percent to $8.99
- Warframe (2013), also free
- The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (2015), marked down 50 percent to $19.99
If the success of these older titles is any indication, the top new releases category gives us a look forward to what may be popular in 2018. That list includes 155 titles in all, including some discounted by more than 60 percent. Highlights include:
- Absolver, marked down 50 percent to $14.99
- Assassin’s Creed Origins, marked down 30 percent to $41.99
- Bomber Crew, marked down 33 percent to $10.04
- Dream Daddy, marked down 33 percent to $10.04

There are also deals on the top games that can only be played in virtual reality, games that exited early access in 2017 and games with the most concurrent players.
