After two weeks of play, the final teams of the ELeague Major: Boston have been set and the quarterfinals are ready to begin. Each of the eight teams that will compete in the tournament’s playoffs have battled their way through last week’s group stage and are ready to face off for their part of the million dollar prize pool.
The quarterfinals will kick off this Friday, Jan 26, at 10 a.m. EST, with the first of three matches. Each series will be a best of three with the games broadcast live from the Agganis Arena in Boston, Massachusetts on the ELeague Twitch channel.
Why you should watch
The first playoffs of 2018, the ELeague Major: Boston just so happens to be a perfect picture of the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive landscape at the moment. While at first brush it may seem like FaZe Clan and SK Gaming sit comfortably above the rest, the reality of this tournament is that just about anyone has a chance to take home first place. Even if those two teams are favored, no one team is far enough ahead to take any match lightly and that means a quarterfinal stage where every map matters.
The day starts off with a rematch of the ECS Season 4 Finals with FaZe Clan taking on Mousesports. In the ECS Finals, FaZe was able to narrowly achieve victory, taking down Mousesports in overtime 19-17 in the third map. With victory snatched away just when it was within reach, Mousesports will enter this match eager to prove themselves and ready for revenge.
In the day’s second match old guard of Natus Vincere takes on the new kids of QB Fire as they both fight to prove that they have what it takes to compete at the highest level. In the final series, G2 Esports vs Cloud9, we finally learn what happens when two teams who are known to choke in series face off against one another, meaning that it could be either the most exciting match of the day — or the least.
